“WOMINJEKA”
Welcome to the East Brunswick Kindergarten and Childcare Centre
East Brunswick Kindergarten and Childcare Centre is a not for profit, community based kindergarten, sponsored by Merri-Bek City Council and run by a voluntary Committee of Management comprised of parents and guardians.
We offer a range of high-quality learning programs for children aged 3-6 years, including;
Sessional, state-subsidised 3 and 4 year old Kindergarten programs (15 hours per week)
Long day care for 3-6 year olds
The primary aims of our programs are to recognise the value of children's play in the learning process and to recognise that each child will develop and learn in their own way and at their own pace. Emphasis is placed on creativity and the learning process rather than on the end product, with particular recognition of the child’s need for space, time, materials, adult support and guidance. Our programs are carefully planned, based on observations, needs and interests of individual children and of the group.
Acknowledgment of Country
In the spirit of Reconciliation, we would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which our centre is situated - the Wurundjeri people. We acknowledge and care for this valued place of learning. We recognise the importance of building relationships and maintaining connections through learning and sharing the stories of life, land and being. We promise to look after the land, the animals, the plants and each other.
Reconciliation Action Plan
Vision for Reconciliation
At East Brunswick Kindergarten and Childcare Centre, we are committed to embedding reconciliation into the everyday life of our service so that children grow up with a deep sense of respect, understanding and connection to Country, culture and community.
We recognise the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn and play and are proud to have worked with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation to strengthen our journey. Through this partnership, our learning spaces were renamed using Woi-wurrung language in 2025, and in 2026 children and educators engaged in a language program to further develop our commitment to language and learning. With permission, Woi-wurrung language is now embedded into daily practice through our Acknowledgement of Country, greetings and ongoing program experiences.
We envision a kindergarten where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, languages and perspectives are meaningfully woven through our philosophy, curriculum, environment and relationships. We believe children should grow within a world where they understand:
the Country on which they live and learn
their responsibility to care for Country
how to build respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities
the importance of culture, language, identity and belonging.
Our vision reflects our aspiration to embed local and broader Aboriginal knowledge across all systems, decision-making and educational practices.
We see reconciliation as an ongoing journey of learning, listening and action. Through partnerships, professional learning, and meaningful engagement with children, families and community, we aim to contribute to a future where respect, equity and cultural understanding are a natural and valued part of every child’s education.
